This photograph, of children pledging their allegiance to a flag at half-mast, was taken at St. Pius X Catholic School on the outskirts of Nashville, Tennessee in April 2007. Taken shortly after the shootings at Virginia Tech, Angela sent this photo to me, along with a news article and a brief note that read, “Thank God we still have you!”
