We’ve been a bit overwhelmed here at Self-Reliant Film trying to finish up DVDs…more on that in a future post! Nonetheless, we’ve had some great festival screenings in April and May, and we want to say thanks to all who came out to the Iowa City International Documentary Film Festival and Maryland Film Festival!
If you weren’t able to make it to SXSW this year, you can catch a summary of “The Power of Super8? panel I participated in on YouTube. This 6-minute video (of a 90 minute panel) leaves out many of the tips I shared about finding archival footage and DIY Super8 transfer, so stay tuned to my Preservation Project blog for a forthcoming post with some of that missing information. Enjoy!
Both screenings are free and Monday night is free popcorn night at the Lyric! Stay afterwards for a Q&A with the film director, Ashley Maynor, and producer, Paul Harrill.
For Memories’ Sake will screen as a special event at the James River Film Festival alongside the film Quick Feet, Soft Hands by Paul Harrill (who is the producer of For Memories’ Sake). Join us in Richmond for a filmmaker salon after the special screening!
Also, we’re so excited to announce that For Memories’ Sake is an official selection of the Nashville Film Festival! The film will screen on April 18th and 20th as part of the Tennessee Film Night 2. Details will be posted on the Facebook fan page. We’re thrilled to have this hometown screening at such a great fest!

Just in time for the holidays, we’ve added an assortment of photo postcards to Angela’s online Etsy shop. Now you can own reproductions of your favorite photos from the film!
All proceeds go towards the ongoing preservation of Angela’s amazing collection, so stock up! If there’s an item that’s not currently available in the shop that you’d like to see, please send us a message through Etsy or email ashley@preservationprojectfilms[dot]com.
We’re taking a short break to finish up the special features of the film’s DVD. Photos of the day will return in 2010. Stay turned for more awesome photos from the archive!
